Christmas Obligation

This year, because Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday, that day is not only the fourth Sunday of Advent, it is also the Vigil of Christmas. And, yes, the Sunday obligation to attend Mass and the Christmas obligation to attend Mass must be fulfilled with two different Masses.

Christmas Mass Times

Masses on Sunday, December 24th will be at 11am, 5pm & 10pm.  There will be no  8:30am Mass.  Christmas Day, December 25th, Mass will be at 10am only.

RCIA 2017-18 First Rite

RCIA CELEBRATES FIRST RITE

On November 12 at the 8:30 Mass Father Jim conducted the Rites of Acceptance and Welcoming.  Father was assisted by Mark and Loretta Miller, Directors of RCIA.  Our Inquirers and their Sponsors participated in these special Rites together.  The Inquirers are:  Jesse Haskin and sponsor Joey Mies; Fabiola Magana and sponsor Ricci Creekmore; Mary Lue Calkins and sponsor Tom Depperschmidt; and Shaden Swaim and sponsor Alexis Cunningham.

Also attending RCIA to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation is Lorena Salazar.   Her sponsor is Teresa Castellanos.    Others attending the class are Pauline Lopez, Monica Lopez, and Cassandra Lopez.

November 12 was also the beginning of the “Breaking Open the Word” phase of the R.C.I.A. process, every Sunday at the 8:30 Mass.  The Inquirers will be dismissed after Father Jim’s homily to further discuss the message of the week’s Liturgy of the Word.  To “Break Open” God’s Word means to discover newness or a beauty in Scripture that we never saw before.  Our Breaking Open the Word sessions do two important things: 1) learning the content of our readings to teach us to know God; 2) this deeper friendship with God pushes us to act and live these readings during the coming week.

RCIA is a class for anyone who would like to learn about the Catholic Church.  Class meets every Tuesday evening from 7 – 8:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall.   For information call Mark Miller, 518-4372.   Please pray for our class and for those who are teaching them.

Angel Tree Event-Night of Giving

Please join us for the 1st Annual Angel Tree/Night of Giving, Sunday, Dec. 3rd. This event will allow St. Jude students to participate in a "giving" program that will touch other students lives. It not only teaches about Stewardship, but also about the need to help one another. This will be a great family/school project.

We will meet at Walmart (53rd/Meridian EAST entrance) at 6:30pm for a group picture (wear your favorite St. Jude shirt or Red) and then "Angels" will be handed out there. After you shop with your family, we will meet back at St. Jude for hot cocoa and cookies. If you are interested, please sign up by going to the link below! or calling Syndi Larez at 208-8848! If you are not able to attend, yet want to make a donation please call Syndi at (316) 208-8848. To help an idea of how many children we can help, Please sign up soon!!!

Everyone is invited to participate. You can choose the price range of gift or join another family and go in on a gift.

If you can't make it that night but still want to participate, let Syndi know and we can get you an angel beforehand. This is a great way to help make Christmas for kids a little brighter and continue to encourage our kiddos to GIVE this Christmas season.

ALSO~if you know of a family whose children could benefit from this program, please contact Syndi. All names are kept in confidence.

Apples for Students

We are again collecting Leeker’s register receipts for the Leeker’s Apples For Students Program:. Receipts dated Sept. 1, 2017 - Mar. 3, 2018 are valid. Save your receipts. Send them to the school or drop in the box in the vestibule of the church.

HOW TO USE THE ELECTRONIC DOORS

We now have electronic doors located at the church main entrance and canopy entrance.  They will be on and operating for all the weekday and Sunday Masses.  We hope that our parishioners with canes, walkers and wheel chairs will find them to be helpful.  Each electronic door is identified by the blue and yellow “Automatic Door” sticker.  One may enter or exit by pressing slam plate marked “Push To Open”.  Slam plates are located both outside and inside the church.  When the slam plate is pressed the door will open for about 20 seconds.

There are two more things to keep in mind.  First, after the door has been activated, it will close automatically.  However, if it is set on “soft close” it may not latch.  In this case, the door will have to be pulled shut if you entered or pushed shut if you exited.

Secondly, the doors will continue to be locked outside of the scheduled Mass or church service times.  In this case, the e-door switch will be in the off position.  Those who keep and adoration hour will still need to ring the doorbell to be let in.  Check to make sure the door has latched behind you as you enter – and pull it shut if it has not.  We cannot leave the power switch on with the doors locked, because activating the doors will stress the motor.
