Foundations of Catholic Faith

Ever tried to explain the Catholic faith to a non-Catholic?  What would you say are the very basic building blocks, the “foundations” of the Catholic faith?  Join Dr. David Wall on Thursday evenings during Lent for a series of talks about Foundations of the Catholic Faith. We will meet in St. Theresa’s Room at 7 pm.

Bible Study

Parishioners who are retired and those who can attend, you are invited to a 5-week Bible study this Lent, led by Andy Beugelsdijk. The sessions will be Tuesday mornings from 11:00am – 12:00pm in the St. Theresa room. The first session will not be the first Tuesday of Lent but the second Tuesday, February 27th, so as not to conflict with Harvest House. The Bible study will look at the role of Jesus’ Passion in God’s plan of redemption using the Gospel of Mark.

Kapaun's Men

Attention men of St. Jude: do you desire to make a difference in the world?  Servant of God Father Emil Kapaun was an ordinary man who made an extraordinary difference to the people around him, and he is a great example as to how we all can do the same.  To help achieve this, St. Jude is starting a Kapaun’s Men group geared just to the men of the parish.  The Kapaun’s Men Virtue Series features video on the life of Father Kapaun and opportunity to grow in friendship with your fellow men.  It will be an 8-week series starting in late January.   We will meet weekly here at St. Jude. Time and room is to be determined.  Stay tuned for additional details in the weeks to come.  Whether you know a lot or a little about Father Kapaun, we invite you to attend.

RCIA 2017-18 First Rite

On November 12 at the 8:30 Mass Father Jim conducted the Rites of Acceptance and Welcoming.  Father was assisted by Mark and Loretta Miller, Directors of RCIA.  Our Inquirers and their Sponsors participated in these special Rites together.  The Inquirers are:  Jesse Haskin and sponsor Joey Mies; Fabiola Magana and sponsor Ricci Creekmore; Mary Lue Calkins and sponsor Tom Depperschmidt; and Shaden Swaim and sponsor Alexis Cunningham.

Also attending RCIA to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation is Lorena Salazar.   Her sponsor is Teresa Castellanos.    Others attending the class are Pauline Lopez, Monica Lopez, and Cassandra Lopez.

November 12 was also the beginning of the “Breaking Open the Word” phase of the R.C.I.A. process, every Sunday at the 8:30 Mass.  The Inquirers will be dismissed after Father Jim’s homily to further discuss the message of the week’s Liturgy of the Word.  To “Break Open” God’s Word means to discover newness or a beauty in Scripture that we never saw before.  Our Breaking Open the Word sessions do two important things: 1) learning the content of our readings to teach us to know God; 2) this deeper friendship with God pushes us to act and live these readings during the coming week.

RCIA is a class for anyone who would like to learn about the Catholic Church.  Class meets every Tuesday evening from 7 – 8:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall.   For information call Mark Miller, 518-4372.   Please pray for our class and for those who are teaching them.

Apples for Students

We are again collecting Leeker’s register receipts for the Leeker’s Apples For Students Program:. Receipts dated Sept. 1, 2017 - Mar. 3, 2018 are valid. Save your receipts. Send them to the school or drop in the box in the vestibule of the church.

We now have electronic doors located at the church main entrance and canopy entrance.  They will be on and operating for all the weekday and Sunday Masses.  We hope that our parishioners with canes, walkers and wheel chairs will find them to be helpful.  Each electronic door is identified by the blue and yellow “Automatic Door” sticker.  One may enter or exit by pressing slam plate marked “Push To Open”.  Slam plates are located both outside and inside the church.  When the slam plate is pressed the door will open for about 20 seconds.

There are two more things to keep in mind.  First, after the door has been activated, it will close automatically.  However, if it is set on “soft close” it may not latch.  In this case, the door will have to be pulled shut if you entered or pushed shut if you exited.

Secondly, the doors will continue to be locked outside of the scheduled Mass or church service times.  In this case, the e-door switch will be in the off position.  Those who keep and adoration hour will still need to ring the doorbell to be let in.  Check to make sure the door has latched behind you as you enter – and pull it shut if it has not.  We cannot leave the power switch on with the doors locked, because activating the doors will stress the motor.
