All About School Lunch

Since 2010 when the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act was passed up until currently (2022-2023 school year), the Child Nutrition Programs, and in particular the National School Lunch Program, has been a focus of much attention! The first change was in order to make our children's meals more nutritious. Within the past several years, the focus has been on balancing the nutrition with good taste, affordability for our students, and sustainability for our lunch programs.

St. Jude Lunch Program

St. Jude Lunch Program is a certified lunch program through the USDA which increases the reimbursement the program receives from USDA for student meals. We are committed to providing the most nutritious meals possible for our children and committed to working with the USDA and KDHE to make meals available to our children under whatever circumstances may arise during the 2025-2026 school year. No matter what the scenario this year, we will continue to do our best to offer as much of a variety as possible in terms of fresh fruits and vegetables. We will continue to provide whole grain-rich bread and pasta items. We will also continue to follow the guidelines of the USDA in serving no trans fats and reducing saturated fats and sodium on our menu.

In accordance with Federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, the USDA, its Agencies, offices, and employees, and institutions participating in or administering USDA programs are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA.

Persons with disabilities who require alternative means of communication for program information (e.g. Braille, large print, audiotape, American Sign Language, etc.), should contact the Agency (State or local) where they applied for benefits. Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech disabilities may contact USDA through the Federal Relay Service at (800) 877-8339. Additionally, program information may be made available in languages other than English.

SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM (SFSP)

Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) was established to ensure that children from low-income families continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. Free meals, that meet federal nutrition guidelines, are provided to all children 18 years old and under at approved SFSP sites in areas with significant concentrations of low-income families.
